A cannabis factory was found after a fire broke out at an empty property in Hersham.
Firefighters were called to the address in Albany Road shortly after 10pm on Sunday, January 20, and police arrived at the scene at 10.50pm.
More than 60 cannabis plants were found at the address, with each room in the property being used for cultivation.
Officers from Surrey Police removed and destroyed the plants.
An investigation is now under way to trace anyone involved in the operation, and house to house inquiries have been done.
Detective Constable Jon Rees said: “This case highlights the dangers involved in carrying out this illegal activity. Fortunately on this occasion there was no loss of life, but people could have easily been hurt or killed in the fire.
“Cultivation of cannabis is a criminal offence and the supply of cannabis is something that we treat very seriously indeed. Offenders will be robustly dealt with by Surrey Police.”
The fire at the property is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.
Anyone with information is asked to call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference P13020550.
