A fundraising drive with a difference has successfully come to an end, with £10,375 raised for Woking and Sam Beare Hospices.

Friends Kevin Doyle and Dave Turner, started their campaign in May 2012 by driving Mr Doyle’s 1975 Morgan from West End, Esher, to John O’Groats, then down to Land’s End and back again.

The journey, of more than 2,000 miles, sparked an array of other initiatives to fundraise for their local hospices.

The drive up and down the UK, named after Mr Doyle’s car, took seven days and became one of many events which helped the team reach their fundraising goal of £10,000.

The pals decided to fundraise for the hospices when they heard how supportive the staff had been to a friend’s mother, who spent her last days at the Woking Hospice.

Mr Doyle said: “The work they do is just so incredible and I have other friends who’ve benefited from their bereavement counselling, but many don’t know they rely on donations from people like you and I to continue their amazing work, so that’s why we started our Morganathon.”
