Emergency salt supplies are being handed over to residents to help them fight the icy conditions.

Enfield Borough Council is putting 22 one-tonne bags of salt in different locations and is encouraging people to help themselves.

Cabinet Member for the environment Councillor Chris Bond said:"We work tirelessly to keep our main routes open during freezing temperatures but unfortunately we can't grit every inch of road and pavement in our borough.”

“We've deployed these bags so that residents who may be away from the main gritting routes have access to salt and can treat their pavements if they wish.”

The bags can be found in Hillcrest, Enfield Road, Hoppers Road, Chandos Avenue, Highfield Road, Main Avenue, Grenoble Gardens, Raynham Road, Ingleton Road, Unity Road, Manton Road, Stoneleigh Avenue, Queensway, Cedar Road, Cuckoohall Lane, Felixstowe Road, Park Avenue, Chalk Lane, Tresilian Avenue and Parkview.
