A DVD rental store in Raynes Park is one of 160 set to close after Blockbusters called in administrators last week.

The shop in Coombe Lane was one of 31 stores already earmarked for closure before the company went into administration.

A further 368 stores will remain open while a buyer is sought, but administrators have warned further closures may be announced over the coming weeks with 760 staff currently facing redundancy.

Lee Manning, joint administrator of Deloitte, said: "Having reviewed the portfolio with management, the store closure plan is an inevitable consequence of having to restructure the company to a profitable core which is capable of being sold.

"We would like to thank the company’s employees for their support and professionalism during this difficult time."

The chain, founded in 1985 in America, has 528 stores and employs 4,190 staff in the UK.
