Students put their verbal skills to the test when they took part in a public speaking competition.

Epsom, Ewell and Banstead Rotary clubs organised a joint heat of the 2013 Rotary Youth Speaks public speaking competition for schools on Monday, January 14.

In a belated celebration of the 75th anniversary of the borough of Epsom and Ewell, the heat was held in the town hall’s council chamber, and was attended by the mayor, Councillor Christine Long.

The winning senior team was from Blenheim High School, with Aberdour School winning in the intermediate category.  They will now go forward to the district final of the competition to be held in March.

Tony Axelrod, of Epsom Rotary Club, said: "Before an audience of teachers, parents and guests, the standard of speaking in all teams on topics of the student’s choosing was extremely high, showing young people at their very best."
