A festive production by the Desborough Players drew in packed crowds for this year’s performances of Jack and the Beanstalk.

The panto began its run with a community performance for Whitley Village residents on Wednesday, January 9, before heading to the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse.

Jack and the Beanstalk, written by Alan P Frayn, told the story of Jack rescuing Princess Primrose from the Giant Gut-Bucket.

Charlie Mullard, who performed the lead role, said: “It’s great doing pantomimes, everyone has so much fun – both the cast and the audience.”

Children were even able to join the cast on stage for the final song, with some grown-ups coaxed on stage with them.

Jane Cairns, director, said: “The Desborough Players are like a family. Everyone pulls together, has fun and works so hard.

“It shows by the fact we have had two consecutive years of complete sell out shows- especially in this financial climate when the local community may not be spending as much on such entertainment.”

The Desborough Players meet Mondays and Wednesdays at the WI Hall, Hersham for rehearsals, with the spring production beginning auditions in March.
