A man from Claygate has been sentenced to nine months in prison for possessing and making indecent images of children.

Sean Girdlestone, 32, of Telegraph Lane was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on Thursday, January 17, on 16 counts of possession and making indecent images, following a nine-day trial in December.

Mr Girdlestone was arrested after police seized a laptop from his home in September 2010 and found numerous pornographic images featuring children.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Stuart Duguid said: “This has been a lengthy investigation and the sentencing reflects the hard work and tenacity of all the officers involved in bringing this man to justice.

“Surrey Police do not tolerate any offence relating to the possession or making of indecent images of children and we will always carry out a full investigation into any individual suspected of committing such offences.

“I would encourage anyone who has been a victim of such an offence themselves, whether historical or otherwise to report it to Surrey Police.”
