From Walton to West Side Story

Walton is to be transformed into the mean streets of New York City, as Elmbridge Youth Theatre performs West Side Story.

Featuring a cast of 40 youngsters, the show will be one of Elmbridge Youth Theatre’s both challenging to date.

Among the most famous musicals of all time, West Side Story broke new ground when it was first staged in 1957.

Based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and updated to 1950s America, it tells the story of two star crossed lovers caught on opposite sides of a gang war. The film version won 10 Oscars.

In 2013, its story of forbidden love and urban jealousy is just as powerful and as relevant as ever before.
