Protest over Downham, New Cross and Woolwich fire stations closure proposal
4:29pm Sunday 13th January 2013 in News By Robert Fisk
MEMBERS of the Fire Brigades Union are set to protest outside the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority’s (LFEPA) next meeting over planned cuts to the city’s fire stations.
The proposed cuts, which include closing Downham, New Cross and Woolwich fire stations, will be discussed by the LFEPA on January 21.
These closures, and those of nine other stations across the capital, are detailed in the draft Fifth London Safety Plan.
It contains proposals by the London Fire commissioner Ron Dobson to save £28.8m over the next two years while maintaining response targets.
The LFEPA meeting is set to take place at London Fire Brigade headquarters, Union Street, Southwark.
