The first Asian woman to become a principal of a British further education college has been made an OBE.

Sunaina Mann, principal of North East Surrey College of Technology (Nescot) in Epsom, was recognised for services to further education.

Ms Mann, who has led the college for seven years, took over Nescot after it was placed in special measures in 2005.

Within five years Ofsted rated the college as outstanding in several areas.

Jacqui Udy, director of learner services said: "At Nescot we are absolutely thrilled for Sunaina because she’s been an outstanding leader for the college."

Before Nescot Ms Mann was Deputy Principal at Exeter and Head at City of Wolverhampton College.
