Giving back: Dame Sarah Goad
The Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey has pledged her support to the Surviving Winter appeal by donating her winter fuel payment.
Dame Sarah Goad is backing the campaign, which aims to raise money for older people at risk in Surrey this winter.
The Community Foundation for Surrey is now encouraging others who can afford it, to donate their winter fuel allowance from the government to support older and vulnerable people in the county.
Dame Sarah Goad said: “I am delighted to support this excellent campaign again this year. I hope my endorsement will encourage more people to donate to the appeal and support residents that are isolated and vulnerable.”
Working in partnership with Surrey Healthy Homes and Action Surrey, the Community Foundation will match all donations from the Government’s Warm Homes Healthy People programme.
Money raised from the campaign will be awarded as grants to local community and voluntary groups that are supporting older people in the county to reduce isolation and vulnerability.
Professor Patrick Dowling, chairman of the Community Foundation for Surrey, said: “I am delighted that Dame Sarah is supporting the campaign and I hope that this will inspire local people to give money to the appeal.”
