THE Met are looking into a complaint by Stephen Lawrence's brother that he is the victim of police racism.

Stuart Lawrence, 35, whose brother was killed by racist thugs in a 1993 Eltham murder, claims he has been stopped up to 25 times by police and never charged with anything.

A spokesman for the Met said: "Mr Lawrence's complaint, which we received last night, is a very serious matter and it will be investigated thoroughly and speedily.

"Stop and search is an important tool to combat crime and is supported by the community if it is used professionally and fairly. Officers are accountable for their actions and it is therefore essential complaints such as these are fully investigated.

"The commissioner has made it clear that he will not tolerate any form of racism in the Met. Strong action will be taken against any individuals in the Met if they are found to have acted in a racist manner."

How many of our black youngsters are leaving the UK for a better life. It dosent matter how well they do and how well they behave, they'll have a lifetime of harassment from the police and people like the above in the comments. I know. A gentleman in his eighties still being picked on. the older black men will not complain, they just accept it. Why should the younsters accepot a life of constant interruptions and snide remarks, from institutions that should Know and behave better. I back the Lawrences all the way because they have guts and stamina to try and change things. Anyone with an ounce of decency will do the same.

Stuff like this drives me mad! Stop and search is there to make London a safer place. So what if you get stopped a lot, suck it up! My son went to the Danson festival last year and was stopped and searched in there 3 times within a few hours. Anything to moan, you would think after what happened to Stephen he could see where the police are coming from.

I get stopped loads because of the the time of night im driving around doing shift work. The majority of burglars who are active at this time of night are white so therefore i get stopped but whats the big deal ?

Oh yes im not black so cant make a big deal of it.

Lose the chip it gets boring after a while its not only blacks who are stopped regularly.

Oh for godsake. What is it with some people. Im with the majority - the stop and search is for the safety of the country. If you've got nothing to hide then it shouldnt matter to you that you have been stopped/searched. I was with the Lawrences all the way originally but now it really is getting a bit too much and bit too in your face.

As someone mentioned above, 'blacks' are no longer the minority in this country. In fact, where I live, Thamesmead, they are pretty much the majority, particularly since I started living there many years ago.

You are not being picked out because you are black. The police are just doing their job. It might not be you they find a knife on, or something else dodgy but it could be that they do find these things on someone else which could stop something awful from happening.

Stop with the 'chip on the shoulder'. It is really getting boring now.

There was in interesting “debate” about this on LBC the other morning. If you are a young, law abiding black man and are constantly getting stopped then it must start to grate after a while. But you have to accept that statistically, young black males are accountable for the majority of knife and gun crimes in the Capital and will therefore be subject to greater scrutiny. That’s not racist, it's policing based on statistics.

Do you remember the outcry when the Met Police Chief stated a few years back that 9 out of 10 muggings in London were committed by black males? People were going mad, accusing him of being racist – but why? It was just a fact. White kids are statistically more likely to rob someone’s house or steal someone’s car. It’s a statistic, but I don’t get all worked up about it.

One Police officer called in to LBC and said he would love to have a meeting with community leaders to discuss their ideas because at the moment they’re dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t – there’s an outcry over the continual stop and search of young black men, but when there’s yet another black on black stabbing, everyone starts moaning that the Police aren’t doing enough to tackle the problem.

Being stopped as a young man any colour is part of the territory in some areas. But when you are middle aged and law abiding and still being stopped then something is wrong. And what's this 'chip' some of the writers are talking about. Change the record, or are you too thick to think of something else to say. You all know full well what's going on, but for some sick reason you applaud it. I really don't know how some of you live satisfying lives with so much hate and revengeful thinking in your hearts. Ok yep i admit it im middle aged, law abiding and still getting stopped but what is wrong ?
I do shift work and travel through some dodgy areas to get home.As whites statitically commit more burglaries it doesnt come as a surprise i get stopped regularly.

The difference is i accept thep olice are doing their job and dont jump on the racism arguement because it happens.
Yes most paedo's are white, i can freely admit that, but could other colours accept there are certain crimes related to their skin colour ?

I doubt it and whats the betting i get branded as racist for asking that simple question,the same subject politicians avoid for risk of being labelled the same.

MacPherson Report or not, the police are still using profiling based on stereotypes when deciding who to stop and search. I know I've walked down the street past coppers with a joint in my mouth (in my mis-spent youth) and they've not stopped or searched me, despite trailing a plume of illegal smelling smoke. The joys of being a white girl, eh?

All you people **** about people having chips on their shoulder need to consider their history and wake up and smell the racism. People with brown faces may be in the majority of residents of some areas but the people with the power are still white, and there's still a lot of inherent racism to be tackled, as many of these comments demonstrate.

Divide and rule, indeed.

It's not just so called "blacks", or so called "browns", its not exactly fashionable to be Romanian, Bulgarian, or Albanian either. Yet those who complain about racism against "blacks" are very silent when it comes to racism against "whites".

Having written the above, whilst yes, Stuart Lawrence does have a chip on his shoulder, no I don't blame him given the circumstances.

Ok so you see me as honest etc blah blah but can you answer the question do you think certain colours of people commit certain crimes.

I freely accept the majority of my colour are paedophiles so can you just answer the question " do you think certain crimes are committed by people of a certain colour ?"

From what I have witnessed toomuch2drink, no. I do not believe that street crime is committed mainly by blacks. I do believe though, that the majority of those caught are black. Make of that what you wish. Compartmentalising crime is stupid and serves no one but the paper shufflers. Every race has their criminals so if you are talking of a particular area you may be right, because majority rules.

I notice we havent been told how he was driving. The police wont just stop a car for no reason. I've seen enough young black men driving dangerously around where I live - on the phone, not wearing a seatbelt, slumped down in seat resting head against door, swerving from lane to lane, undertaking, speeding, aggressive driving - so if he was doing any of these on a regular basis and the police happened to see the car being driven in that way of course they would pull it over. If I drove like that I would expect to be a target aswell.

But cos I is not black I wouldn't have a get out excuse though, innit.

White people commit crimes against each other but it is not called white on White, meaning its ok for whites to commit violence against each other. Why? The fact a separate police organisation had to be set up - Trident - should give you a clue as to the problem

Read and educate yourself, most street robbery is commited by black males on other black males even though the majority of males in london are not black.

A member of my family happens to be a solicitor doing legal aid and guess what colour the majority of the clients are for street robbery ? For burglary its whites but for robbery its nearly always blacks.

Facts are facts and the sooner people stop ignoring the issues and tackle them then only then can change happen from within the communties.

So statistically as a black person you can be expected to be robbed by another black person far more than a white person would, but you reckon its wrong to compartmentalise crime ?

I don't think that someone stating some facts and figures on here is going to 'stir up racial tensions'. The immigration policies of sucessive governments have already done this without anyone else's input.

First of all, why do black people always call the race card? If you didn't run around in gangs with guns thinking your mr big then you will be left alone, what is it we hear on the news? Another black boy been killed by a gang member, do tell me again why as I said you play the race card because you bring it on yourselfs? And secondly, it is sad that the Lawrence family lost a child, no parent should have to lose there child but, all this is about is they used there sons death for fame and money, they have been out if the lime light for too long now they have to think of something else to get in the news? Black people are more likely to be a victim of crime committed by another black person hence the trident unit.

I never questioned if black people are bad, good and bad exists in humans fullstop.Most paedos are white so colour isnt related to crime but it is related to certain types of crime,fact.

Its about someone claiming the police are racist because he got stopped by them.I pointed out i too have been stopped by them many times too but i dont shout racism do i ?

Every time someone plays the race card when its not needed you give ammo to those who do have a problem with colour.
In my old job i was called a racist nearly everyday, it got boring especially when the person i was working with was black.I let my black colleagues deal with them instead and it turned to the "your a coconut,bounty,choc-
ice" taunts instead.
Never once did a white person use language related to my colour when trying to abuse me.
I saw africans abusing my jamaican colleagues and vice versa,the black on black hate is ridiculous, far worse than white on black.

Get your own house in order before moaning about what others do.
