LEWISHAM and Greenwich people are being asked to help out their elderly neighbours as the cold winter sets in.
Charity Contact the Elderly claims more than two thirds of the older people it supports receive visits only once a week or less. Just under half don’t know their neighbours.
The charity organises free monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties in the homes of volunteers for small groups of older people, aged 75 and above, who live alone without nearby family and friends.
It is urging people to look out for their neighbours, whether it is dropping by for a cup of tea or simply giving them a call to check on their welfare.
