A Lord visited Palmers Green yesterday to speak to students about Parliament.

Lord Mitchell delivered an hour-long presentation to 60 Year 10 and Year 11 students at Palmers Green High School in Hoppers Road.

The visit was part of Parliament Week, a national initiative to build greater awareness of parliamentary democracy in the UK.

Dr Mark Caddy, Deputy Head and careers teacher at the girls school, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our girls to interact with someone who knows the parliamentary system inside out, as it can sometimes seem far removed from their daily lives.”

Lord Mitchell, who is the Labour spokesperson for business, innovation and skills, spoke about the the role of the House of Lords and answered students' questions about the parliamentary process and life at Westminster.

More than 40 UK schools were visited by lords on Friday as part of the Peers in Schools programme, which has been running since 2007.
