A VIOLIN worth more than £140,000 has been stolen during a burglary in New Cross.

Thought to be one of only three in the world, the 18th century Nicola Gagliano violin was taken from a flat in Erlanger Road.

The 31-year-old owner returned to his home on Wednesday (November 14) at 10.45pm to find both the main communal door and his own front door had been forced open.

Police say various rooms had been searched and a number of items had been stolen.

The violin was stored in a brown case which was rectangular in shape and had two straps.

Anyone with information or who knows the whereabouts of the violin should contact Detective Constable Kevin Seed at Lewisham CID.
