EASTENDERS actor Jamie Foreman will no longer be switching on Beckenham’s Christmas lights tomorrow (November 17).

The 54-year-old actor, who plays Derek Branning in the soap, was expected to be doing the honours in the town centre at 6pm.

But last night, an “unfortunate misunderstanding” was blamed for the last minute change of plan.

A Bromley Council spokesman said: “Due to an unfortunate misunderstanding, Jamie Foreman will not switch on the Christmas lights in Beckenham town centre on Saturday.

“Bromley Council do apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Instead, it has been confirmed the Deputy Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Ian Payne will flick the switch to light up the town, with a little help from Santa.

The switch on follows three-hours of festive entertainment in Beckenham town centre.

Beckenham’s Christmas lights are the first to be switched on in Bromley.
