AN ENTHUSIASTIC display of cross-party support saw Bexley councillors agree to sign the Armed Forces Covenant.
A unanimous vote at the full council meeting last Wednesday (November 7) was cast just days before Remembrance Day.
The covenant recognises the whole nation has a moral obligation to the armed forces and their families and establishes how they should be treated.
Council leader, Councillor Teresa O'Neill said: “I’m delighted Bexley councillors came together in the way they did to support such an important motion.
“We’re deeply grateful to our armed forces for all they do.
“Adopting this covenant at a local level will confirm Bexley's commitment to ensuring those who have served our country, and their families, get the recognition, help and support they deserve.”
A community based covenant will now encourage a greater understanding between past and present members of the armed forces and members of the community.
