A murder investigation has been launched after a 20-year-old man died in Teddington.

Officers were called at 12.30am on Sunday, November 11, to reports of a man collapsed in Field Lane.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but died shortly after.

A postmortem examination will take place today at Kingston  Hospital mortuary.

Two men were arrested near the scene on suspicion of assault and were taken to a west London police station.

They have been released on bail and will return mid-December, pending further inquiries.

A 21-year-old man was later arrested at a house in Richmond and remains in custody.

The police believe they know the identity of the man who died, who was from Twickenham, but await formal identification and for his next of kin to be made aware.

Police are linking the suspected murder with an incident at 9.50pm on Saturday, in Teddington High Street, near the Royal Oak pub. The pub was cordoned off on Saturday and closed on Sunday after a large group of people were involved in a fight. No arrests were made in connection with this incident.

After the incident near the pub, two men were taken to hospital and one remains in a serious but stable condition while the other sustained minor injuries and was discharged

Officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating both incidents and an incident room has opened in Sutton under Detective Inspector Tony Bishop.

Witnesses to either incident or anyone who might have information that could assist the inquiry are asked to call the Incident room on 020 8721 4155 or to remain anonymous Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
