Apprenticeships coordinator hired to tackle unemployment in Streatham
An apprenticeships coordinator is being hired to tackle the growing youth unemployment crisis.
The role involves campaigning to getting businesses to offer jobs to young people, seek out apprenticeships and give young people the advice they need to get on the jobs ladder.
The number of 16-24 year olds out of work and claiming benefit in Lambeth is above the London average.
Councillor Jackie Meldrum, cabinet lead for employment and enterprise, said: "It’s a hugely important job and shows that we are not prepared to stand back and see our young people flounder during an economic crisis not of their making."
The appointment of the coordinator, expected to start next month, is part of Lambeth’s ‘More Jobs’ campaign that helps residents looking for employment.
