Waitrose 'minutes from destruction' after suspected arson
6:00am Tuesday 30th October 2012 in News By Rachel Bishop
Waitrose in Hampton almost went up in flames on Sunday, following a suspected arson attack on recycling bins behind the store.
Temporary watch manager at Twickenham, Ian Devine, said if firefighters had arrived 10 minutes later, the store would have gone up in a blaze.
Firefighters attended the scene at approximately 2am on Sunday, October 28, where four recycling bins were on fire.
The fire had also melted a light outside the store and spread to a nearby fence.
Mr Devine said: “We got there just in time because it was getting close to the roof – the whole of Waitrose could’ve gone up.”
Fire fighters believe the fire was started deliberately as they could not find an ignition source.
Mr Devine said: “I think it’s just kids messing about.”
It is believe that police are not following up on the incident.

In their opinion, just another victimless crime, covered by insurance, a waste of police time.

1) The Police may not be following up as although it's arson, Waitrose (or the property company)may not have made a complaint to the Police.
2) Bob - the Police station is not full of Police to run across the road. They are out and about or filling in the mountain of paperwork from other incidents. Do you want them to be sitting theere in case something happens at Waitrose?
3) It takes 5 seconds or less to get a fire going. The numpties would have been long gone before anyone raised the alarm. CCTV is generally useless as the images aren't clear face wise
4) RT - poor reporting again. Did you actually ask the Police if they were investigating?
