Volunteers plant thousands of bulbs at Crystal Palace Park

VOLUNTEER gardeners came face-to-face with the resident dinosaurs in Crystal Palace Park during a community bulb planting event last weekend.
The planting of narcissi and daffodil bulbs took place on the grassy area between the information centre and the boating lake in the park and the council’s parks team even offered a helping hand.
Volunteers helped out with the Dig It scheme between 11am and 3pm on October 28 and 29.
A range of helpers came along to get stuck in including children from Royston Primary school, in the High Street, Penge, horticulture students from Capel Manor College, in Ledrington Road, Crystal Palace, and volunteers from the council scheme Thyme Out which helps students with learning disabilities gain practical skills.
Friends of Crystal Palace Park and the Crystal Palace Community Stakeholder group organised the event to plant thousands of bulbs, supported by Bromley Council.
Executive councillor for environment Colin Smith said: "Not only do days like this leave colourful legacies in our parks for many years to come, we have found across the borough that they serve to strengthen local communities too."
