LONDON Assembly member Darren Johnson will meet cyclists in Cutty Sark Gardens this week to draw attention to recent enforcement of a bye-law prohibiting cyclists in the area.
The Green Party politician says, since the completion of renovation works on the ship and gardens, some Londoners who have been cycling through the gardens for years have complained about the council’s decision to enforce a ban.
Mr Johnson said: "Many Londoners are being prevented from cycling to and from work or enjoying cycling for health or leisure because of Greenwich Council’s decision to outlaw cycling in Cutty Sark Gardens.
"It is also completely illogical that the Thamespath cycle route stops at the entrance to the gardens – there is little point building a cable car equipped to carry cycles when there is no way to cycle to the cable car itself.
"With this visit I am aiming to encourage the Royal Borough of Greenwich to speed up its review of these bye-laws which are preventing a proper cycling infrastructure from existing in the area."

I've been in other parks & nearly knocked flying by a gang of lycra louts (sorry, cyclists) speeding along, screaming abuse at anyone who dares get in their way
