Lorry driver fined after trail of carnage in Dartford residential road

AN ARTICULATED lorry driver had to be escorted by police after "destroying anything in his way" down a small Dartford residential road.

Last Saturday (October 20) at around 12.30pm the dozy driver ran into trouble as he drove along Brentlands Drive, which loops back round to itself via Princes View and Marina Drive.

Christine Kirk, who witnessed the incident, said: "It's not unusual for a lorry to take a wrong turning down this road, but all have reversed before it was too late.

"Whereas this driver decided to carry on down and round the roads, destroying anything in his way - not caring, or stopping."

The 20-year-old added: "He caused damage to a fence - as he mounted the pavement he knocked it down - carrying on and hitting nearly every car down Marina Drive.

"He smashed into the back of the first car, breaking the back window and causing possible structural damage, before knocking the left wheel of a car and damaging the side and wing mirror.

"He also scratched windows and doors along the road."

Miss Kirk says her mum and sister stood in front of the lorry to stop him going further while someone else took his keys off him and waited for police to arrive.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "A lorry was reported to have been in a collision with six other parked vehicles and is believed to have hit a wall and a fence.

"The lorry was stuck in the road and was reported to have been blocking the road.

"Officers helped escort the lorry to a loading bay and the road was cleared at about 2.15pm.

"The lorry driver was issued with two graduated fixed penalty notices, each for £300.

"One was issued for careless driving and the other for failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic accident."

£600 fine! Seems a bit lenient. Would have thought a ban would have been given.

He is clearly an EU driver, so I would guess he heard that you can get away with anything in the UK, so while he was here he might as well push the boat out a bit, and he was right, thousands of pounds worth of damage, £600 fine, that showed him, safe journey home driver, the guys back home will love this one.

We are dealing with a non resident, TBH it makes more sense to give him a fine that he can pay, rather than a larger sum which would be meaningless since it would never be paid. If somebody had been injured the affair would have been more serious, but no point in banning somebody for three months when he may not be back for a year, it's a waste of time & resources.

It feels wrong for him to come here and cause so much damage, and then just walk away with a small fine, but I guess you're right in what you say.

Not surprised it is that company's lorry, apparently their drivers are some of the worst paid and most time pressured on the road, hence their driving standards are erm suspect.....

Yeah that 's right, the lorry drive woke and decided to drive all the way to Brentlands Drive to hit some cars and a fence then drive all the way home again.

Bleeding foreigners coming over here driving on British roads, haven't they got there own roads to drive on.

So you think the driver should be fined more because he's a foreigner?

Where does it feel wrong in your waters, your bones or some where else?

How about the poor recipients of this drivers trail of carnage. Having to make a claim from a foreign insurance company. It took me 4 years to claim against a Polish lorry driver who hit my car.

no sonny he should be made to settle up the insurance claims in this country before fleeing back to wherever he came from because nine times out of ten its almost impossible to sort out the insurance once a foreign driver returns to europe but as usual you are more interested in foreingners than brits why dont you clear of abroad if you dont like this country or its peeps mf lol

But is it not the same for us if we go abroad?

How am I more interested in foreigners than brits ? Put up or shut up!

Hate the game not the players.

(I await the other sock puppet accounts to come along)

It's the insurance company that settles the claim not the driver. What a cretinous remark.
