Met Police insurance checks near Nugent Centre cause tailbacks
9:10am Tuesday 23rd October 2012 in News By Robert Fisk
TRAFFIC is at a standstill on the outskirts of Orpington this morning (October 23) as police carry out insurance checks.
Long queues have built up near the Nugent Centre in Cray Avenue while officers check drivers’ details.
It is not yet known how long the Bromley police will be running the operation, which is causing tailbacks to the A20.
One of the drivers’ stuck in the jams this morning was News Shopper editor Andy Parkes.
He said: “I appreciate the boys in blue need to keep themselves busy with cuts to the Met police looming but they should not do it by disrupting people’s journeys into work."
Did you get stuck in the traffic? What do you think of the operation? Have your say below.

What an idiot!
Are you seriously saying that the police are 'keeping themselves busy' to keep their jobs?
As an 'editor' you should know that the police cannot be made redundant.
When do you think the police should run this type of operation,at midnight when no one is about?
But then,of course,MR.SELFISH Andy Parkes will not be travelling to work and be inconvenienced!
What a useless editor/journalist and what a selfish individual.

Orpington is a favourite spot for police looking for cheap points, another trick is to wait at mini roundabouts on quiet side roads trying to catch motorists who do not make a signal.

So well done the police!
(And yes, I have been hit by an uninsured driver - had she been caught perhaps she wouldn't have driven in to me!)

Yea right a slapped wrist and the license you never had will be endorsed, and/or the piece of crap you were driving will be crushed.

Anybody hit by an uninsured driver should contact the Motor Insurers Bureau, it's not like it never happens. As for being sorry, if uninsured drivers really are the major criminals that plods are currently making them out to be, I doubt if they will care too much.
This is a Met wide operation to take uninsured drivers off the road. They are a menace to all of us who pay our insurance and even more of a menace to those of us that uninsured hit. This was done all over London today. If you're uninsured, you will be caught, and you will be sorry!!!

Get every illegal car/bike driver off the road and impose heavy fines. Those who are legal with insurance are penalised by having to pay extra premiums to cover those who dont pay. Well done to the police........now catch more people on the phone when driving

A few of the many discouraging things about not having insurance and of course having to walk home with your belongings!
