Jimmy Savile not only one to blame in sex abuse scandal: Editor's Eye

Dead DJ and TV presenter Jimmy Savile has been accused of various sex crimes against young people
LET’S be very clear right from the start, I am not condoning, in any way, the quite terrible behaviour of Jimmy Savile.
But, I have to be honest and say the way things are developing I am struggling to understand what people are hoping to achieve.
If a crime’s been committed then it should be investigated, obviously.
If such a criminal investigation leads to some sort of closure for victims so much the better.
But it obviously doesn’t make a jot of difference to the dead, northern DJ.
Perhaps the most astonishing revelation in this whole sordid affair is the fact anyone is surprised by the actions of BBC staff.
You will not find a more arrogant, self-serving and pretentious organisation anywhere.
For years, it has acted entirely as it pleases purely on the basis it believes it has earnt the right.
It’s not for me to pre-empt any investigation, whether carried out properly by an independent organisation or conducted by the BBC, but if it reports BBC staff did exactly what they wanted to and ignored the concerns of anyone else it simply won’t be news.
And, what’s more, I will confidently predict the effects felt at the BBC will be about as telling as they will be for Sir Jimmy.
As for the reasons put forward why Savile was not confronted with his crimes while he was alive, these are ludicrous in the extreme. National newspapers don’t duck stories just because someone raises wads of charity cash.
We’ll have to wait and see where it all ends, but scumbag Savile isn’t the only one to blame, that’s for sure.
What do you think? Are you surprised by all the allegations about Jimmy Savile? Why do you think the stories have not come out until recently? Add your comments below.
