Lawrence Centre damage: No charges
 |
| Eight windows at the centre were smashed |
Four men arrested in connection with criminal damage at the Stephen Lawrence Centre in south east London have been released without charge.
Police say there is insufficient evidence to mount a prosecution.
The building in Brookmill Road, Deptford, was vandalised on February 14 just one week after opening.
Eight windows at the £10m centre, for young people interested in architecture, were smashed in the attack.
The windows featured a facade by award-winning artist Chris Ofili.
Borough commander of Lewisham police Chief Superintendent Alan Pughsley said: "The investigation is still ongoing.
"We are determined to pursue those responsible for this criminal act and appeal to anyone with any information to come forward."
Anyone with any information should call Lewisham police on 020 8284 8339, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

I suppose this story will attract the usual biggoted comments. It must've been quite upsetting for the artist to see his work destroyed too.

Wall full of windows, how .Unlike the Mona Lisa, which if damaged, would be a disaster this artwork just needs a couple of glaziers to put the glass back...there,no more drama.Kids up and down the country like to smash glass, this just happens to be a very expensive piece of glass and it seems to be a bit irresponsible making it out of glass(a bit like asking for trouble)

LOL..what a moron!
I dont think there was any implication that these windows were considered a work of art, the story just states that a facade(the front of a building), was designed by an artist.
As for your claim that it is iresponsible to have such a feature on a building.....LMFAO
Do you have not windows in your house then?
Idiot.
