LEWISHAM: Police appeal to weapons bus riders

Officers want to speak to anyone who was on the 47 bus in Deptford where police seized an arsenal of 16 weapons from a group of youths.

They took the action after becoming suspicious about a large group of youths travelling on the top deck at around 8pm on Saturday (May 17).

Some passengers got off the bus before police got on in Evelyn Street, near the junction with Oxestall's Road, and the vehicle was driven to Lewisham police station.

Six knives, two screwdrivers, a corkscrew, a golf club, a metal baseball bat, a mallet, two wrench handles, a claw hammer and a metal bar were found on the bus and 24 teenagers were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit violent disorder.

The group, aged between 14 and 18, are from the Deptford, Rotherhithe and Lewisham areas and have all been bailed to return to Lewisham police station pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Tony Anderson wants anyone who was travelling on the bus that evening and saw anything suspicious to get in touch as they may be valuable witnesses.

Anyone with any information should call Lewisham CID on 020 8284 8313 or 07788 916864.

How on earth do these kids get hold of such things? Are there family blind? Someone has to be. These are just kids. I never expected the 'Kidulthood' style of life to kick off. At 14 years old most kids should be at home with family and friends, not out and about stabbing people.

I don't know what these kids think they will be when they grow up, but decent it aint. Maybe our tax money can buy them a house to provide the drug cartels.

I don't think immigration is the problem, we had these problems, but no one is really 'British'. Gone are the days of the world seeing Britain as a load of posh people. Its hoodies and druggies now.

They don't seemed bothered as you only get a slap on the wrist for murder these days. I'm so happy to know the government has let thousands of nutters loose on the streets and not behind bars where they belong. Can't wait to get out of this **** hole. Thats if I don't get stabbed or shot walking to the post box.
