A father and son were left shocked after a bus crashed into the front room of their family home in Wood Green.

The W4, a single decker bus, ploughed through the windows of the living room as a man and his elderly father sat watching tv in the lounge of their home on White Hart Lane on Tuesday.

The son, Robert Thompson, immediately reacted and told his father to get out the house in case of a petrol leak. He called the police and the ambulance before leaving their home as well taking nothing with him.

His elderly mother, in her 70's, was not home at the time.

The ten passengers who were on board are unharmed though the male driver had to be cut free and taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Mr Thompson, 42, said: "I knew something was happening out there but I didn't know what until I saw the bus looming large at the window. I got a good look at the driver who didn't look conscious. He was quite blue in the face. He was quite a large chap.

"The noise was tremendous. There is glass everywhere - glass from our windows and glass from the windshield of the bus."

The family, who were living in council property, are being comforted by neighbours but will be put into temporary accomodation until something more permanent can be arranged.

Police closed White Hart Lane between High Road Tottenham and Acacia Road but re-opened at approximately 3:20pm.

It will be closed again when the bus, which is still wedged in the wall, is removed.

The cause of the crash is not yet known.

A TfL spokesperson said: "As with any incident of this nature, a full investigation will be carried out into the cause of the incident."
