‘Black magic’ rapist jailed indefinitely
A father-of-three who raped a 13 year-old girl leaving her pregnant - claiming he did so because he was "possessed" by black magic - was this week jailed indefinitely, banned from working with children and placed on the sex offenders' register for life.
But Syed Kazmi, 38, of Westbourne Road, Hillingdon, could be free in less than four years - the minimum set by Judge Richard McGregor-Johnson at Isleworth Crown Court on Monday.
Kazmi, having prevaricated his way through the court system trying to get out of his original guilty' pleas, finally admitted raping the youngster in May 2005 and between August 1 and December 31, 2005.
Prosecutor Graham Lodge told the court he seduced the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and raped her a number of times when he was "in a position of trust".
When she complained of cramp, he took her to the doctor only to discover that she was carrying a baby. The doctor then informed the authorities, said counsel.
Kazmi at first denied being the father but when DNA tests confirmed his paternity, he admitted the charges. He then tried to change his plea to not guilty' claiming that he had sex with the teenager "because black magic told him to do so" - his counsel, Kerry Maylin, told the court.
However, after a lengthy hearing, the judge refused to allow a change of plea.
The child gave birth to a baby girl last year.
Ms Maylin told the court that Kazmi's wife was standing by him and wanted him back. However, their three children are all under 16 and Kazmi is now banned from being on premises with anyone under that age without the presence of another adult.
