THREE self-styled teen hoodlums from a terror gang called the The Wood Green Mob have been handed three-year prison sentences.Jermaine Campbell, Craig Johnson and Ashley Gowdie, all 16, were given sentences longer than normal for young offenders at Harrow Crown Court last Friday for their part in a series of cash and mobile phone robberies committed in and around Wood Green High Road last year.

Another gang member, 17-year-old Shane Reid, was detained for 13 months on two counts of robbery.

Six others, aged between 12 and 18 when the offences took place, where given sentences varying from two-year supervision orders to 18 months in a young offenders' institute.

The notorious ten-strong gang also known as the Junior Mafia Woodz, carried out at least 17 robberies and attempted robberies between them in the area, often surrounding the victim and using violence including punching, headbutting and kicking.

In one terrifying attack, a 17-year-old boy was threatened with being "sliced" and then punched in the face, leaving him permanently scarred.

In another, two schoolboys were threatened with knives and robbed of just £1. They were caught by a special police team in a covert CCTV surveillance operation.

Seven detectives drafted in from the London Crime Squad studied more than 1,300 hours of footage and accrued 176 witnesses before arresting the gang.

In the immediate aftermath of the arrests, street crime in Wood Green dropped by a third.

Detective Inspector Matt Butterworth said: "These ten youths have been convicted of a series of 17 violent street offences, some involving knives, and assaulting the young and vulnerable on the streets of Wood Green."

Judge Roger Sanders took the unusual step of naming all but two of the minors in the gang.

Campbell admitted four counts of robbery, Johnson admitted five counts of robbery and attempted robbery and Gowdie also admitted five offences. The eldest, Marcus Downie, 18, admitted one count of robbery and was sentenced to 18 months in a young offenders' institute.

Fifteen-year-old Michael Gaynor, who admitted three counts, and Aaron Reddicks, also 15, who admitted two counts of robbery, were given 12-month detention and training orders along with Marlon Brown, 16, who admitted one offence.

The two youngest members, aged 12 and 13 who cannot be named, were given supervision orders for two years.

Judge Sanders warned them: "I hope you now realise how shameful and disgusting it is for any young boy to blight his future by these offences."
