WANSTEAD residents mustered in force to march on City Hall demanding that London Mayor Ken Livingstone order a review of M11 Link Road compensation payments.

After an early morning rendezvous with Wanstead councillor Allan Burgess at Wanstead tube station last week, the 20 campaigners journeyed to the home of the London Assembly where they joined forces with another ten residents and were introduced to London Assembly chairman Brian Coleman.

Under the slogan Justice for Wanstead, campaigners Doreen Golding and Doreen Jenkinson organised a 700-ame petition which they arranged to hand over to the Mayor at the assembly meeting.

Mrs Golding said: "We sat with our individual street name badges pinned on us facing Ken Livingstone while Roger Evans presented the petition stating that some of the sums offered by Transport for London were unrealistic and unreasonable and that there was a need for transparency.

"We all unanimously stood and applauded him for doing this for us, hopefully attracting Ken Livingstone's attention."

The organisers hope to be able to report some progress at a public meeting tomorrow night (Friday) in the Churchill Room of Wanstead Library in Spratt Hall Road.

Cllr Burgess and Roger Evans will be on the panel and invitations have been sent to Wanstead MP Harry Cohen and agents negotiating with Transport for London on residents' behalf.

The meeting starts at 7.30pm.
