Zippo's give the gift of laughter

Zippo's Circus, London's largest touring circus, will be putting smiles of the faces of hundreds of disadvantaged children at a one-off beneficiary performance for hundreds of children that Capital 95.8's Help a London Child help support at Peckham Rye Common on September 13.

The family-favourite circus has donated 350 free tickets to children and carers from Help a London Child funded groups across London, including the Westminster House Youth Club, Radiant Idea, Signal and Friends of Cyberzone, Bellingham Community Project and Down's South.

The audience in the Big Top will be made up of children and young people who would never normally have the chance to go to the circus - either due to poverty or as a result of their disabilities.

Martin "Zippo" Burton said: "Zippos Circus has supported Help a London Child since its beginning and this year we wanted to do something on a larger scale.

"At Zippos we believe every child should be able to visit the circus, regardless of their background or wealth.

"This is our way of making sure some of the most deprived youngsters are given the chance to be entertained for a couple of hours. We will certainly give them a show to remember!"

Help a London Child (HALC) was founded in 1975 by Lord Attenborough CBE, as Capital 95.8's charity to assist and give opportunities to thousands of London's children and young people experiencing abuse, homelessness, disability, poverty and illness.

In the first year £8,000 was raised and grants given to 10 charities in Camden.

The charity has come a long way since and now 30 years on the charity has raised in excess of £20 million and awarded grants to over 10,000 small groups across the Capital, directly helping more than one million children.

The action packed charity performance will feature many of the highlights from Zippos main show, which is nostalgically themed around the Wild West.

Zippos Circus' fantastic acts include * The Mohicans' acrobatic troupe extraordinaire * Henri, Prince of Clowns * High Chaparral horses presented by seven-year-old cowgirl Little Miss Kristina Roberts and her father Tom, * Whip-cracking, rope-spinning Western antics from the Faltiny Trio, * Cowboy capers from Bippo the Kid and his squaw' Christine, and Norman Barrett, the world's greatest Ringmaster, once again presenting the show and his eternally-popular performing budgie act in Wild West mode.

Zippos Circus will be showing at Peckham Rye Common, Peckham Rye from September 13-18. To book tickets or check showtimes, visit zipposcircus.co.uk
