Dir:George A Romero
With: Michelle Morgan, Shawn Roberts, Philip Riccio

It's a long march to the grave whenever George A Romero is around. Diary of the Dead, the director's latest zombie chiller, drags its weary carcass into view behind Day of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Coach Trip of the Dead (okay, that last one was made up).

This time, a band of photogenic youngsters, doubtless inspired by The Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield and a million other films that have pulled the same stunt, make a video diary of their flight from a viral horror sweeping America (odd how these infections never seem to trouble folk in Uzbekistan). Otherwise it's business as usual, with Romero having to dream up ever more inventive ways to dispatch the living dead. In one instance, a drooling ghoul is speared into the next world with an IV drip pole. Perhaps making him watch the next "Dead" instalment, planned for 2009, would have been too cruel.
