IT'S been a while since The B52s' stock has been this high.

Their influence is heard everywhere from MGMT to Goldfrapp, Long Blondes to Ladytron - artless, kitsch, plastic, fantastic.

And their first album in 16 years makes merry continuing in the same vein.

Deviant Ingredient knowingly revels in its shallowness with Fred camping it up like a bawdy MC in contrast to Kate Pierson's vocal soar; while Keith Strickland's guitar sounds best when sticking to the chugga-chugga Rock Lobster/Planet Claire template as on Hot Corner and Ultraviolet - opening track Pump comes on like a Love Shack for the new century.

Only when the band stray into radio-friendly pop-rock on Love in the Year 3000 do things start to go a bit wrong. Be glad they're back and horny.
