A lifelong Watford resident and father has been chosen to stand as the Liberal Democrat candidate in the forthcoming Tudor Ward by-election.
Darren Walford, of Knutsford Avenue, lives in Knutsford Avenue and runs his own painting and decorating business.
He is married to Tanya and has one daughter, Yasmine, who attends Knutsford Primary School.
Mr Walford said: "Having lived here all my life, I do feel strongly about what goes on in the community around me, and am keen to ensure the Ward remains well represented by another person who genuinely cares.
"The closure of Bushey Mill Lane post office was the driving force behind my decision to put myself forward to the Liberal Democrats. They were the only party that really fought to save it, and while unsuccessful in this instance, standing up for your community counts.
"I have also seen the great work Mayor Dorothy Thornhill and her Lib Dem councillors have carried out in reversing the mistakes made when Labour ran the Town Hall. I'm enjoying all the benefits of superb new leisure facilities, a vastly improved town centre, far nicer parks to take my daughter, but without being taxed to the max for it - the borough's share of council tax has been kept down, and as a businessman I know value for money is important."
The by-election will be held on Thursday, October 16.
