South Bucks MPs among richest Tories

Two south Buckinghamshire MPs have been named as millionaire Tories by a national newspaper.

Beaconsfield MP Dominic Grieve and Amersham and Chesham MP Cheryl Gillan have both been named among 19 out of 29 shadow cabinet members with a seven-figure bank balance.

A News of the World investigation has claimed if the Conservatives came to power, Britain would have its wealthiest government since the mid-19th century.

It found Mr Grieve, shadow home secretary, was the 6th richest Tory MP with a wealth of £3.1 million - one place behind leader David Cameron at £3.2 million.

The report says: "A barrister and ex-member of insurers Lloyds, his assets include 15 shareholdings worth more than £60,000 each.

"He owns a £1.2m home in West London, plus a rental property in the city, and is part-owner of land in France.

"His wife holds several directorships including one with damp and property restoration firm Hutton and Rostron."

Cheryl Gillan MP is said to have £1.4million in private wealth.

Lord Strathclyde, leader of the opposition in the House of Lords, topped the Tory rich list with a wealth of £10 million.

The investigation used figures from Companies House, the Land Registry and other official sources and found none of the 19 has broken any rules building up their wealth.
