AS part of the Guardian's Spotlight On Walthamstow series of features, CARL BROWN asks shoppers what they like about Walthamstow.

Saleh Amed, 34, shopworker, of Higham Hill Road "I like the fact the High Street is more clean and tidy than it used to be and the market is nice to walk around."

Ibrahim Osoble, 41, unemployed, of Leyton High Road "The best thing about Walthamstow is that everyone in the community gives you help when you need it.

"The location is great, you can get into the city by tube and there are good bus links, the market is also good for fruit - you can get whatever you like."

Mick Kennedy, 32, carpenter, of Coppermill Lane "The farmer's market on Sundays is great, you can buy proper sausages, I just wish it was bigger.

"I like going to Walthamstow marshes, it is really good to have a a big green space full of wildlife."

Dainius Jagminas, 25, a car washer, and Jurate Bartkeviciute, 23, a hotel worker, of Marlowe Road "We only moved here from Lithuania three months ago, but it seems like a really good area.

"The shopping centre is really cheap with lots of choice."

Jean Russell, retired, 85, of Queens Road, "I've been living here for about 20 years, I like the shopping centre, there are plenty of bargains to be had."

Stephen Pearcey, 19, of Coppermill Lane, "I like using the sports and computer games shops and most of the people in Walthamstow are friendly."
