We’ve seen David Beckham on the pitch, delivering precise crosses, appearing on adverts for H&M underwear campaigns, gracing the covers of magazines, and as a sports ambassador.

On Friday evening, we’ll see David acting in one of the most popular, iconic television series. For Leytonstone-born David is set to appear in Only Fools and Horses, alongside David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst (the Trotter brothers), for a special, one-off Sport Relief episode.

You’d expect the global superstar to have taken filming in his stride, but David has revealed it not only filled him with dread, but he was starstruck too.

“The day of filming started off with slightly sleepless night, going over my script,“ he told The Radio Times. “The thought of being on set with Nicholas and David was obviously very nerve-wracking.

“I’ve never done anything like this before, especially with two people I’m really in awe of. It wasn’t just about learning the script, it was about delivering it, saying the right things at the right time.“

In the episode we will see the Trotter brothers take to the streets of Peckham, with a crazy scheme to get rich quick involving the superstar.

“I’m a huge fan of the show,“ the 38-year-old adds. “I have been for many years, as far back as I can remember. Being from the East End of London, it’s what I was brought up on. I think that what it’s really about, making people laugh, making people smile and raising money for important charities that was doing a lot of incredible work.

“I can now die a happy man.“
