Save hundreds doing DIY
HOMEOWNERS can save up to £400 in energy costs every year by doing simple renovations and DIY improvements, according to the green gadget shop Nigels's Eco Store.
Twenty-five per cent of emissions come from the home and founder, Nigel Berman, believes it is an important area for people to concentrate on.
Nigel said: "Reducing emissions is something we need to do for the planet, but we're also doing it for ourselves. You can reduce your bills if you take energy saving measures."
He said this was the case because although many devices were more expensive initially, they helped save on bills, giving the example of energy-saving lightbulbs which cost £15 each but save £40 in electricity costs over their lifetimes.
The Green Building Press recently reported industry experts estimate the value of a home can increase by £5,000 if homeowners spend £500 on the right renovations.
