Gherkin views

Architect Norman Foster's iconic design of 30 St Mary Axe, better known as "the Gherkin", is a beacon in London's skyline.

Built for Swiss Re, the second largest insurance company in the world, it opened in 2004.

The building is normally closed to the public, but we offer you a peek of the spectular panorama from the 41st floor.

All pictures by Martina Smit.

Favourite Gherkin
During its first public opening for Open House weekend in 2004, more than 10,000 people queued for an average of four hours to see their beloved Gherkin up close.
