A MAN had every bone in his face broken in an sickening unprovoked attack in south west London.

Mark Dietrich needs extensive surgery after his jaw was shattered in three places and his nose collapsed.

The 39-year-old is also likely to lose most of his front teeth.

Police are hunting the dangerous man who repeatedly jumped up down on the victim's head and then hit a woman passer-by who tried to stop the attack.

At about 5.20pm last Tuesday, the victim was driving alone on his way home from work down Powdermill lane, in Richmond, when he tried to turn left into Chester Avenue.

His path was blocked by an Asian couple standing in the middle of the road.

The driver asked them to move on to the pavement but the man just mumbled something under his breath, so the victim drove around them and parked up, police said.

"The victim got out of his vehicle to remonstrate with the man who approached him and a fight ensued," a police spokesman said.

"The victim was punched to the ground and submitted to a severe kicking around the head and upper torso.

"The suspect completely overpowered the victim but continued to attack him using gratuitous violence.

"The victim attempted to protect himself whilst being kicked but the suspect jumped up into the air and jumped with both feet onto the victims head causing horrific injuries."

A woman passer-by who tried to stop the attack was then hit in the face by the man, splitting her lip open.

The man is now recovering at home, but police said he would return to hospital for further surgery.

DS Kevin McSharry said: "This was a horrific attack whereby a man has suffered serious injuries at the hands of a man prepared to use gratuitous violence.

"It is especially shocking given the fact that the victim had already been punched to the floor and was unable to defend himself or indeed pose any threat to the suspect.

"The fact that this man also attacked and injured a female passer-by who was trying to help the victim demonstrates further how violent he is. This man needs to be caught and I would urge anyone with information to come forward."

Police said the Asian man was aged in his early twenties, about 5'8, of proportionate build, wearing a dark coloured rugby style shirt with a light collar and a light coloured badge.

He was with an Asian female who wearing dark clothing and a light coloured, possibly green, head scarf.

The victim, a white man, was driving a P registered white Ford transit van.
