TWO London men have been jailed for 19 years for trafficking heroin with a street value of £23 million.

Ozer Ibrahim, 38, from Battersea, and Helal Miah, 34, from Stratford, pleaded guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court to dealing the class A drug.

Police said their sentencing has lead to a major disruption to the supply of heroin in the capital.

Ibrahim was arrested while carrying 3kg of heroin in Tower Hamlets and police later discovered another 68kg of the drug at his flat.

Police then discovered 6.65kg of heroin at an address linked to Miah in central London.

A third address in Stratford was finally searched and police found a false wall in the kitchen hiding £26,000 cash, 30 grams of heroin and measuring equipment.

Both men later admitted to dealing large amounts of heroin in Newham and across the capital.

Ibrahim pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing heroin with intent to supply and was sentenced to 13 years behind bars.

Miah pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to supply and was jailed for six years.

Following sentencing, detective inspector Dave McKelvey, who led the operation from Newham, said: "This case involved trafficking of heroin worth around £23 million. "The arrest of Ibrahim and Miah significantly disrupted an organised criminal network and led to the recovery of 78 kilos of heroin.

"The success of this operation has had a significant impact on the availability of this drug in Newham and the Metropolitan Police area."

Detective chief inspector Paul Bourne, of Forest Gate Police, said: "This was yet another outstanding result for the borough's Drugs and Crime Squad officers.

"This small team continues to have a dramatic impact on drug related offences in Newham and the surrounding boroughs."
