Last week, The Borehamwood and Elstree Times challenged magician Nicholas Einhorn to predict the front page headline of last Friday's newspaper.

Days before the story was even written, staff at this newspaper witnessed the magic man seal his prediction into an envelope, which was kept under lock and key in the Times Group safe.

On Monday we visited Mr Einhorn at his Elstree home to reveal whether or not he was correct.

Anticipation filled the air as reporter Louise Compton opened the envelope.

Inside was Mr Einhorn's prediction which read "Neighbours living in fear of yobs."

Inside a second envelope was an audio cassette which the magician had recorded. On the tape he said: "Alongside the headline will be a photograph of a small animal, perhaps a cat."

Last week's actual front page headline read "Woman lives in fear of gang" and contained a picture of a small dog.

Mr Einhorn was delighted with his prediction.

"It was very close. I have to admit I was apprehensive about the outcome as it was the first time I had done anything like it," he said.

"When I was working to predict the headline I used a combination of different techniques, including basic problem solving, psychology and straightforward intuition," he added.

Mr Einhorn this week received a grant from The Arts Council of England to fund a week-long expedition to South Africa.

Next February he will travel to Cape Town where he is set to teach magic to underprivileged children.
