THREE men and a woman have been released from police custody after a care worker was killed in the crossfire during a gunfight.

One of the men has been bailed to return to a south London police station pending further inquiries into the death of Magda Pniewska.

No further action will be taken against the other three people.

Miss Pniewska was killed outside Stunell House, John Williams Close, New Cross, at around 6.20pm on Tuesday.

In a statement her family said: "Our darling daughter the flower of a rose and a ray of sun has been taken away from us.

"My darling sister whose joy and wisdom has been taken away from me.

"My darling creature whose happiness and dreams have been taken away from me.

"She was like a wind full of life.

"Today she is not among us anymore but her spirit still lives among us and our memories of her will never die."

A post-mortem examination at Greenwich Mortuary yesterday confirmed Magda Pniewska died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

She worked at neighbouring Manley Court Nursing Home and was on her way home at the time.

Witnesses have said a man in the passenger side of a red Volkswagen Polo and another man standing at the top of the car park steps began firing at each other and Ms Pniewska was caught in the crossfire.

Detectives from Operation Trident, which investigates gun crime in the black community, are investigating the murder.
