Ystradgynlais remain on top thanks to a home victory over a defiant New Dock Stars side that only saw the league leaders pull away in the final quarter of a hard battle.

The Blues took the lead when Hywel Evans slotted over a ninth-minute penalty.

And that was soon extended when David Love peeled off a maul to dive over for the try. Evans added the difficult conversion from the right touchline for an early 10-0 lead before Evans slotted over another penalty.

The next try, when it arrived did so in almost identical fashion to the first; indiscipline from the visitors allowed Ystrad possession deep in opposition territory and they took full advantage by driving over for the score with No8 Love again emerging from the pile with the ball.

New Dock hit back five minutes before the break with a fine try before another on the stroke of half-time brought them right back in to it.

Ystrad edged further ahead after the break when Matthew Soroka was put in for the score thanks to the combination of a long pass from prop Adrian Lock and a neat take-and-give from captain Craig Jones. Evans continued his impressive kicking display with a fourth successful attempt and a 25-10 lead.

The Blues cemented the victory in the 65th minute when a fine break down the touchline by Neil Roberts allowed the centre to turn a pass inside to Holsgrove who crossed for an unconverted fourth try of the match and secured the bonus point.

Ystrad weren't finished however and capped the game in the final minutes with two further tries; firstly the visitors turned the ball over on halfway which allowed Roberts to hack up field and when the ball finally held up in the in-goal area replacement Dane Clancy was on hand to finish the move.

Then with seconds remaining Ystrad added another score of blistering quality, substitute Nathan Holsgrove gave a beautiful delayed pass with his first touch of the game at midfield and Harries raced clear under the posts to wrap up the scoring.
