An 86-year-old Streatham woman had a lucky escape when a bus crashed into an upstairs living room while she was in the flat below.
The double-decker bus made the unscheduled stop in King's Avenue last Tuesday, when it crashed through the wall of the flat above Stella Smiles' ground-floor flat.
Karen Richmond, 42, who lives in the upstairs flat, came back from work to see a No 19 Routemaster bus had smashed through the wall of her living room, creating a gaping hole.
Police, ambulance and fire crews attended the scene of the incident, but nobody was injured.
Arriva Buses confirmed that one of its vehicles was involved in the accident and are investigating.
Council engineers checked that the building was safe before removing the vehicle.
Mark Yexley, managing director of Arriva London, said: "We confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in a road accident at around 3pm on Tuesday in Kings Avenue."
