A SOUTHALL school has enjoyed a visit from American artists who helped pupils design themed sculptures.

Raj Dagstani, who is now based in Dubai, held a week of after school workshops with students from Villiers High School.

The pupils were asked to produce art work based on the school motto which was then showcased at an exhibition evening for family and friend last Friday.

Pupil Hamza Kamal, 14, from Southall, said: "Raj was really great. He completely inspired us with the way he was so enthusiastic about the art project.

"I learned so much in the week about art like how to make a 3D sculpture but more than that I learned to be confident with my art and to enjoy it. It was a great week.

Raj said: "The pupils were utterly fantastic. They brought out the best in me as an artist and as a person and I hope and believe I was able to get the best of them in our short time together.

"The work that has been produced has completely exceeded all expectations. I am very proud to of been part of this project and to have worked in such a wonderful school.

The project was organised and funded by community support charity Kick which has been worked with schools across London since 2002.

Charity CEO Kanwardeep Ahluwalia said: "I can tell from the work produced this project has had a very powerful effect on the pupils.

"It is really rewarding for these young people to have started the week with a complete blank and five days later to have produced such creative and interesting work.

"We are really proud to have been part of this project and are now looking for the next school to work with."

Deputy headteacher Phil Masterson said: "Raj has really inspired not just the pupils but the staff with his boundless enthusiasm.

"These sculptures tell a wonderful story about our school and our community. Something we are all very proud of."
