Care workers are set to decide whether to take strike action after they failed to reach an agreement over how much they should be paid.

Staff at Your Choice Barnet (YCB), which supports people with physical and learning disabilities, are facing pay cuts of 9.5 per cent.

However, although there was an offer to reduce this to 8.31 per cent, this was rejected by 97 per cent of staff members.

Unison members will hold a meeting this evening (Wednesday, August 20) to discuss the results of their latest ballot.

Tracey Lees, YCB’s CEO, says: “We are disappointed that after all our efforts the 8.31% offer to settle the dispute has been rejected.

“YCB employees are still paid well above the median for reputable care and support providers in London.

“We have no employees below the London Living Wage and the majority are significantly higher.

“In addition, our terms and conditions are excellent; we offer 29 days annual leave for the majority, our sick pay gives 6 months full pay with a further 6 months on half pay and employees benefit from the local government pension scheme.”
