A student who designed a dress inspired by the fashions of the last 150 years will see his creation stitched together after winning an award.

Luke Hards, a student at Barnet and Southgate College, in Wood Street, was crowned the winner of John Lewis’s fashion competition.

He was one of 12 students tasked with designing a dress to celebrate the chain’s 150th birthday, using influences from the store’s heritage range.

Luke will now spend the day in the John Lewis head office fashion design studio, who will help him create the dress before it is displayed at Brent Cross Shopping Centre.

He said: “I am surprised, delighted and gobsmacked. I'm really looking forward to working in the Design Studio and seeing my design come to life."

Runners up Rosetti-Rae Rogers and Yida Tineo Cova were awarded 2nd and 3rd prizes, and each received a John Lewis Gift Voucher for £25.
