A bus fire in Twickenham required five fire engines and some 30 firefighters to extinguish today.

All passengers and the driver evacuated the diesel bus on Richmond Road before London Fire Brigade arrived.

There were no reported injuries.

The road remains shut as the investigation into the burnt-out single decker bus continues.

People have been urged to avoid the area.

Crews from Twickenham, Richmond, Heston, and Kingston fire stations attended the scene.

The fire brigade was called at 1.18pm and was over for crews by 2.26pm (May 18).

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Five fire engines and around 30 firefighters tackled a bus fire on Richmond Road in Twickenham.

“One diesel single decker bus was destroyed by the fire. All passengers and the driver left the bus before the Brigade's arrival. There are no reports of any injuries.

“The road remains closed following the incident and people are advised to avoid the area for the rest of the day.

“The Brigade was called at 1318 and the incident was over for firefighters at 1426. Crews from Twickenham, Richmond, Heston and Kingston fire stations attended the scene.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
